Japan 2009

As a member of the Oregon Potters Association (OPA) I submitted entries for a collaborative show between the Hokkaido Pottery Society in Sapporo, Japan and the Oregon OPA. As luck would have it my work was selected as one of 30 clay artists to participate in this internantional exhibition. A life long goal of mine was to one day visit Japan, thisbecame a golden opportunity. Denice said, "Jim, let's follow the pot!" So we did.

The menu above represents stages of a most incredible journey. The "Clay Box" series of photos documents the travels of a piece Donna Cole, a ceramics colleague at Portland Community College, and I collaborated on to present to the Hokkaido Potters in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sapporo, Japan and Portland, Oregon being Sister Cities.
